PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was victorious on Saturday (April 8) night with a thrilling 10-9 victory over the 11th-ranked Seton Hill University Griffins.
The Storm improved to 6-4 overall and 5-0 in the G-MAC with their fourth straight win.
Seton Hill opened the game with a goal first. Lake Erie tied the game with a Mitchell Stokes (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary) goal two minutes later. Stokes assisted on a goal by Brandon Donahue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude) that gave the Storm a 2-1 lead. The Griffins gained a 4-2 lead with three straight goals in a five minute span. Seton Hill led 4-2 after one quarter.
Tim Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) opened the second quarter with a goal of his own that cut the Griffins lead to 4-3. Stokes tied the game for Lake Erie with his second goal of the game with ten minutes left in the half. Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) put the Storm up 5-4 on a goal assisted by Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer) with 2:32 left in the quarter. Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) made it 6-4 Lake Erie with under a minute left in the half. Lake Erie led 6-4 at the half.
Bishop scored his second goal of the game to start the third quarter. Seton Hill tied the game at seven with three goals in a six minute span. The game was tied seven apiece after three quarters.
T. Bay gave the Storm an 8-7 lead with his second goal of the game five minutes into the fourth quarter. Renaud scored with an assist from Nick Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute) as the Storm added an insurance goal with six minutes to go. Seton Hill trimmed the lead to 9-8 with a goal thirty seconds later. Renaud pushed the advantage to 10-8 with his second goal of the evening. The Griffins pulled within one goal with three minutes to go.
T. Bay finished the game with two goals, one assist and five groundballs. Stokes scored two goals and assisted on two others. Renaud had two goals and one assist while Bishop tallied two goals. Donahue had one goal and three groundballs.
Bret Swan (Acton City, Ont. / Halton Hills) won eleven of 21 faceoffs and picked up a team-high six groundballs. Alex Corbett (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) grabbed three groundballs for the Storm.
In the goal, Conor Sharkey (Cambridge, Ont. / Jacob Hespeler / Pfieffer) made seven saves from 29 total shots by Seton Hill.
The Storm will travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a G-MAC matchup next Saturday (April 15) at 1:00 PM.
