Storm Downs Alderson-Broaddus 21-2

PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team won their second straight ECAC game, downing Alderson-Broaddus 21-2 University Saturday March 22) at home.

The Storm got off to fast start in the first quarter, amassing a 6-0 lead. Reagan Harding (Saskatoon, Sak./Bishop James Mahoney) scored the Storm's first goal less than a minute in. After that, Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) rattled off three straight goals. Harding then scored his second goal of the game, followed by one from Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg). 

Harding completed his hat trick early in the second quarter, followed by Shafer's second. Bishop scored his fourth goal of the half to make it 9-0. Macgregor Johnston (Naniamo, B.C./Dover Bay), Andrew Stockton (Medford, N.Y./Patchoque-Medford) and Trevor Tarte (Amhertsburg, Ont./Kiski Prep) rounded out the scoring for the Storm as they owned a 12-0 lead at the break. 

In addition to his goal, Johnston added three assists in the first half. Will Mulcahy (Batavia, N.Y/Batvia), Ryan Jurek (Hamburg, N.Y/Hamburg) and Robert Pelkey (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport/Finger Lakes CC) also had one assist in the first half.

Tarte scored his second goal of the game to start the third. Nico Summaria (McMurray, Pa./Peters Townships) increased the Storm lead to 14 on a play set up by a huge hit by Harding. Tarte completed his hat trick with five minutes left to play in the third quarter. 

After Mulchaey scored his first goal of the game, Alderson-Broaddus got on the board in the fourth quarter with a goal from Nicholas Williams, cutting the lead to 16-1. Tarte, Shafer, Jurek, Stockton and Mulcahy scored in the fourth, as the Storm sealed the win.  

Bishop and Shafer had two assists and Tarte and Johnston had one assist apiece in the second half.

Overall, Tarte and Bishop led the Storm with six assists- Tarte on five goals, Bishop on four. Johnston had five points on one goal and five assists while Shafer had four on two goals, two assists.  Mulcahy and Harding each had three points while Stockton and Jurek had two. Summaria and Pelkey each registered a point.

Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens) picked up the win in net, making four saves.  Thomas Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) made seven saves in the second half.

Rashad Brown (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport/Genesse CC/Mars Hill) went 13-of-18 on faceoffs, picking up seven groundballs.  Overall, the Storm won 19-of-26 (73%) on faceoffs.

Defensively, Justin Goodwin (New Westminster, B.C./New Westminster Secondary) led the Storm with 10 groundballs and three caused turnovers.  The Battlers committed 22 turnovers compared the Storm's 10.

The Storm had a huge lead in groundballs, 42-18, and shots 63-16.  

Lake Erie wraps-up their three game homestand Wednesday (March 26) against ECAC opponent Wheeling Jesuit University.
