PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Junior Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) tied for 17th individually and the Lake Erie College men's golf team posted a ninth-place team finish after the final round of the Northwood University Invitational at Currie West Golf Course In Midland, Mich.
Guarino shot 74-76-150 (+6) to finish as Lake Erie's low scorer for the second time in as many tournaments this fall. Senior Frank Whites III (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) was three strokes behind at 78-78-153 (+9) and classmate Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) was the next best Storm player at 80-76-156 (+12). Whites tied for 26th while Hennessey tied for 42nd.
As a team, the Storm was 12 strokes behind eighth place Wayne State University with a team score of 630. Host Northwood won the team title with a score of 589. Ashland University's Jay Overy was the individual medalist at 141.
The Storm will take part in the first NCAA Regional event on Sept. 24-25 at Hawkshead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.
