(TIFFIN, Ohio) – Five players scored in double-figures led by Lamont Rhodes with a double-double as Lake Erie downed Tiffin 87-76 Saturday afternoon. The win set a Storm (16-10, 11-7) record in the Division II era for conference wins and ties last year's record of 16 overall wins.
The scoring started early and often for the Storm who scored 87 or more for the fourth time this season. It was also one of the best shooting days for the Green and White who clipped the nets at 50 percent for the fifth time this season.
A big portion of that was from the aforementioned Rhodes who put down 10-of-17 attempts for a game-high 23 points. He was a force on the glass once again with 11 rebounds. Fourteen of those came in the second half.
The first two buckets were pivotal as they helped keep a Dragons' comeback attempt at bay. The hosts were able to cut the deficit to two at 42-40 after a Shane Waldon jumper, but Rhodes answered with a -layup on an Erron James assists. After a Tiffin turnover, he added a jumper to make it 46-40.
Tiffin eventually tied the game at 48-48 after a triple by Austin Schaub, but Lake Erie immediately regained the lead on the next possession on a Gabe Kynard layup. It was the closest Tiffin would get the rest of the way.
Kynard finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Joining him and Rhodes in double-figures were Thomas with 15 points and five boards off the bench, James with 12, and Brogan Scott with 12.
Tiffin had firepower of its own with Joshua Williams leading the team with 16 off the bench. Waldon finished with 15 and Austin Adams totaled 14.
The Storm now closes the regular season with a pair of games just down I-90 and I-77 against Walsh and Malone. They'll take on the Cavaliers first this Thursday. Tip-off from North Canton is set for 7:30 p.m.
