(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Double-doubles by both Gabe Kynard and Mitch Loomis helped Lake Erie defeat a gritty Tiffin team 78-66 to cap a perfect weekend on Saturday afternoon at the Osborne Center. It was just the second and third time player for the Storm (10-6, 5-3) has achieved the feat this season after Loomis did so back on November 29 against Alderson Broaddus.
The Dragons (5-11, 1-7) gave Lake Erie all it could handle as the game featured 13 ties, 12 lead changes, and neither team holding more than a two-possession lead until 5:39 of the second half. That occurred when Kynard was fouled on a layup and converted the and-one attempt to put Lake Erie up 63-56.
The play was in the middle of a 10-1 run for the Storm as they closed out the game outscoring the Dragons 20-10. Kynard finished with a game-high 26 and pulled down 11 rebounds.
A big part of that was the play of Loomis who came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down 10 rebounds. He was strong throughout the second half where he totaled 10 and seven. Overall he was a masterful 7-of-8 from the field.
Erron James also snuck into the double-figure category with 14 points. He added three rebounds, three assists and two steals to his line as well.
Four Dragons starters hit double digits with Austin Adams leading the way with 18. He was 7-for-11 with a pair of 3-pointers. Shane Waldon added 16 and was a board shy of a double-double himself.
Now on a four-game win streak, the Storm will look to keep that momentum going as they close out the five-game home stand next week. The first of those final two games will be Thursday as Malone comes to town. Tip-off with the Pioneers is set for 7:30 p.m.
