PAINESVILLE, Ohio- For the final time before moving to the G-MAC next season, the Lake Erie College Storm men's basketball team will open GLIAC play this weekend with a trip to Michigan to face Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State. Lake Erie plays Wayne State on Thursday (Dec. 1) and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Dec. 3).
Storm Warning: Lake Erie begins GLIAC play with an 0-7 record after a 84-73 loss to Notre Dame College on Monday (Nov. 28). Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) scored 18 of his career-high 20 points in the second half. Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) scored 12 off the bench. Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) leads the Storm with 15.9 points per game.
Opposition Position: Wayne State is on a three-game winning streak, with a 3-1 record entering conference play. The Warriors defeated Lewis 74-70 in overtime in their last game. The Cardinals have a 6-0 record on the season, after a 101-82 win over Olivet on Monday.
Series History: Lake Erie has face off with Wayne State ten times since Lake Erie joined the GLIAC in 2010. The Warriors have won nine of ten matchups with the Storm's only win coming in the 2014-15 season. Wayne State swept the matchups last year with Andy Bosley leading the way with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Lake Erie has a 1-5 record against Saginaw Valley State since 2010. The Cardinals won last year's matchup 81-69 with Andy Bosley scoring 19 points.
Storm Forecast: The Storm will return home to the Osborne Center for a pair of GLIAC North opponents next weekend. Lake Erie will face Michigan Tech on Dec. 8th and Northern Michigan on Dec. 10th.
