CANTON, Ohio—Jamil Dudley's (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) went eight-of-ten (80%) shooting from the floor as he lifted the Lake Erie College men's basketball team to a 82-79 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division road win over Malone University on Thursday (Jan. 10) in Canton, Ohio.
Dudley ended the game with 18 points, going eight-of-ten from the floor and two-of-three from beyond the arch.
The Pioneers (6-6, 4-5 GLIAC) held a slim 38-37 lead after the first half of play. Nate Tait (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush/Alderson-Broaddus) led the Storm (5-7, 2-6 GLIAC) in scoring with eight points off the bench while Dudley contributed six. Tom Parker (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius), Garrick Sims (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) and Roy Alexander (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Ridge) each scored five in the frame. The Storm shot 53.8% (14-of-26) from the floor in the half and outrebounded Malone 19-to 16. Isiah Elliot led the Pioneers with eleven points in the half.
A Parker three-pointer 51 seconds into the second half tied the game at 40 before Dudley gave the Storm a 43-42 lead a minute later. The Pioneers tied the game back up at 50 with 15 minutes to play in the half. The teams exchanged points until the seven minute mark when Andy Bosley (Columbus, Ohio/Orange) stole the ball and connected on the dunk to put the Storm ahead 68-67. Lake Erie would not look back as Riley Thomas (Cardington, Ohio/Cardington-Lincoln) went four-of-four from the free-throw line in the final two-and-a-half minutes to secure the Storm's 82-79 win.
Overall, three members of the Storm scored in double digits- Dudley (18), Thomas (15), and Tait (13). Simms led the Storm in rebounding with six while scoring nine points. Lake Erie stole 11 balls in the game, led by Trey Howard's (Lima, Ohio/Lima Shawnee) four. Alexander, Parker and Howard each recorded three assists to lead the Storm. Steve Walczak (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) blocked a career-high three shots.
The Storm shot an impressive 57.7% (30-of-52) from the floor and 55.6% (five-of-nine) from beyond the arch. Lake Erie won the rebound battle 34-to-27.
Elliot led the Pioneers with a game high 19 points as three other Malone players scored in double digits- Zach Bates (16), Che Richardson (13) and Vince Kazmierczak (11). Richardson also collected a game-high 11 rebounds for the double-double.
The Storm return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, as they head to North Canton, Ohio to face GLIAC foe Walsh University. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
