(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Lake Erie fell to an explosive Findlay squad by a score of 61-14 in the home finale at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The Storm dropped to 3-6 overall on the season and 2-4 in the G-MAC, while the Oilers improved to 6-3 and 5-1.
The Green and White battled for the first quarter and scored their first touchdown when Javarian Smith (Sr., Pontiac, Michigan) found Peyton Brown (Fr., Fairfield, Ohio) from 12 yards out to make the score 13-7. It capped a nine-play, 93 yard drive, which was aided by a hook-and-ladder. Smith hit Josh Hufstetler (Jr., North Olmsted, Ohio) for a quick pass before he flipped to Nate Dantely Jr. (Fr., Tampa, Florida) who completed the 58 yard play.
It was the last time the Storm saw the end zone until Smith scampered for a four yard touchdown late in the game.
Smith finished the game with 208 yards on 19-of-29. Dantley was the top receiver with three caught for 83 yards.
Defensively Thomas Covington (Jr., Tampa, Florida) and Elems Ukwu Jr. (Gr., Landover, Maryland) were all over the field with 12 tackles and a pass breakup each. Ukwu also had a tackle in the backfield for a five-yard loss. Justin Growel (RS-Jr., East Troy, Wisconsin) and Tre Chane Shanklin (Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) both added quarterback sacks as well.
The Storm will now head on the road for the final two games of the season. First up will be a trip to the capital to take on Ohio Dominican. Kickoff with the Panthers is set for 1 p.m. with coverage available on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
