PAINESVILLE, Ohio-The Lake Erie College football team could not get the offense rolling as the Ashland University Eagles scored early and often as the #11 Eagles rolled to a 63-6 victory on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Britt.
Lake Erie is looking for their first win, as they are now 0-6 on the year.
Lake Erie went three-and-out on their first drive. Ashland returned the punt 50 yards for a score. Three minutes later, the Eagles capped a four play drive with a 53 yard touchdown scamper. Ashland led 14-0 after a quarter.
On Ashland's first drive of the second quarter, the visitors punched it in from the one-yard line with a dive over the pile. As the half came to a close, Ashland went 92 yards on six plays with a 24-yard touchdown pass. The Storm trailed 28-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Ashland scored three times on two passing scores and one rushing touchdown before the Storm got on the board.
Lake Erie drove down the field with a ten play, 77-yard drive in four minutes. John Banyasz (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) found Anthony Kukwa (Perry, Ohio / Perry/ Ball State) over the middle with a 12 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good as the Storm trailed 49-6.
Two more rushing touchdowns ended the scoring for the Eagles as Ashland defeated the Storm 63-6.
The Storm got 153 yards of total offense in the game. Banyasz was seven-for-12 with 75 passing yards and one touchdown. Desmon Turner (Cedar Bluff, Ala. / Fort Payne) led the rushing game with 36 yards on 13 attempts.
Zack Jude (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Bloom Carroll) led the defense with 13 total tackles, including three solo and ten assisted.
Lake Erie will travel to Ferris State next Saturday (Oct. 22) to face the Bulldogs in a GLIAC matchup.
