HILLSDALE, Mich.—The Lake Erie College football fell in on the road against Hillsdale College Saturday (Sept. 13), 52-29, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup.
Brandon Phenix (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee) led the Storm offense, rushing for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 25 carries.
Mitchel Hokavar (Perry, Ohio/Perry) completed 16-of-28 passes for 247 yards. He also rushed for 52 days.
Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on just three carries.
Michael Muzic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) converted his two field goal attempts, hitting from 20 and 28 yards out.
Zach Jude (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carrol) led the Storm defense with seven tackles. Ramon Alexander (Akron, Ohio/Akron Bucjtel) and Maurice Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Beechcroft) had five stops apiece. Alec Heldreth (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) had a sack and a forced fumble.
After Hillsdale scored the first points of the game on a three-yard run, Muzic connected with a 20-yard field goal to cut the lead to four. Hillsdale answered with a touchdown and a field goal before Muzic hit his second field goal. Hillsdale tacked on two more touchdowns before the Storm reached the end zone late in the opening half. Phenix rushed in from seven-yards out. Ryan Bitzer (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Orange) converted a two-point conversion.
Hillsdale scored the first three touchdowns of the second half. In the fourth, Aaron Lindgren took off for a 43-yard touchdown run. Several minutes later, Phenix scored his second of the game, this time from 30-yards out. Demarco Rojas (Owings, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) converted the two-point conversion but it was not enough for the Storm.
The Storm totaled 26 first downs. The outgained the Chargers offensively, 561-471. 312 of the Storms 561 total yards came on the ground.
The Storm is back in action next week, traveling to Walsh University for a GLIAC game.
