PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College football team officially opened preparation for the 2011 season on Friday, March 18, with the start of the annual spring practice period. The Storm returns nearly its entire team after posting a 3-8 overall record and 3-7 conference mark in its first season as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
In addition, this is the first year the Storm's spring workouts will be held at their home venue. Before the installation of the ProGrass artificial surface at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium last summer, the grass playing and practice fields were unusable during the often inclement months of March and April.
"We're very excited to be able to have our entire spring camp here with easy access to our locker rooms and training facilities," said head coach Mark McNellie. "This is an important time for our program as we get ready for our second season in the GLIAC. Without the logistical headaches of traveling off-site for practices, we will be able to focus on the work and skill improvement that needs to be done."
The Storm will hold 15 practice over the next month, concluding with the annual Green vs. White Spring Game on April 16 at Britt Stadium. Another highlight of the camp will be the team's annual Coaches' Clinic on April 9.
