PAINESVILLE, OH – October 8, 2008 – Lake Erie College junior tailback Tony Howard (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) gave a record-setting performance in the team’s historic first win on Saturday, which led him to another program record by being named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The individual honor is the first award ever given to a Storm player in program history.
In the 34-27 win against Glenville State College, Howard totaled a program record three touchdowns. The first came on an 18-yard pass in the opening quarter to put Lake Erie on the board first. The second, tied the game at 20 in the fourth quarter after a 13-yard run. His final TD of the day came on a 73-yard run in the fourth and served as the game winner. His final rush also set a record for long run. In the game, he totaled 24 carries and 142 yards – both program records.
For the season, Howard leads the Storm with 472 total yards on 88 carries. He is also the team leader with eight touchdowns. In NCAA Division II he ranks 35th in scoring with 48 points and 60th in rushing with 78.67 yards per game.
