(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The Lake Erie baseball coaching staff is expanding as Head Coach Ray Skjold has announced the hiring of John Chalupa, Ronnie Krsolovic and David Lemasters. The trio come to Lake Erie with professional and international playing experience.
"The new assistant coaches all have impressive backgrounds in baseball," said Ray Skjold regarding his recent hires. "Their experiences will help with the development of our student-athletes in our program." I'm certain that I have brought in assistant coaches with great moral character. They have already displayed great passion for helping our student-athletes improve. I'm looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off."
Chalupa comes to Lake Erie after a three year professional pitching career. Prior to pro ball, Chalupa pitched collegiately at Fairleigh Dickinson University (NCAA Division I) where he was used as a weekend starter. At FDU he was recruited and coached by Skjold.
In his senior year he helped the program get to the championship round of the Northeast Conference tournament. At the conclusion of his playing career, Chalupa began coaching at the Kings Baseball Facility in New York. There he mentored high school pitchers that went on to earn Division I scholarships to the University of Michigan, Quinnipiac University and Marist College. He will serve as the programs pitching coach at Lake Erie.
"John has great experiences in college and professional baseball. I'm confident he will be dedicated to helping our pitching staff improve," added Skjold.
Krsolovic comes to Lake Erie after playing internationally for the Croatian National Team. He is a graduate of Oakland University (NCAA Division I) and was named to the Horizon Leagues All-Academic Team after his senior year. He will be working with infielders and hitters while serving on Skjold's staff.
"Ronnie has great playing experiences that will translate nicely into his role here at Lake Erie. He has already earned lots of credibility with our position players," commented Skjold.
Lemasters needs no introduction as one of the best pitchers in the history of Lake Erie College. He was a first team all G-MAC selection in 2019 and holds the record for career strikeouts at LEC. Lemasters pitched professionally for the Lake Erie Crushers upon graduation. He will continue his pro career, but will serve as a volunteer assistant before his report date.
"It was a great day when Dave walked in my office this summer and said he wanted to mentor some of our younger pitchers before heading out to pro ball," said Skjold. "It was a no brainer for me to have him around. He has already been instrumental with mentoring our younger pitchers. He will assist Coach Chalupa development of our pitching staff."
Lake Erie will be releasing its 2020 baseball schedule in the next few days. Stay tuned to lakeeriestrom.com for all updates regarding Lake Erie Baseball.
