Storm Not Enough for no. 17 Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio- The Lake Erie College baseball team fell to the no. 17 Ashland University Eagles this afternoon. The Eagles, undefeated at home, increase their record to 23-3 with the win. The Storm falls to 11-15 in 2019 with the loss.

In the top of the fifth, Tyler Hissom led-off with a walk. A single hit by Nathan Birtley put runners on first and second for sophomore slugger Trace Peterson. Peterson found a gap and hit a double, scoring Hissom and Birtley. A walk by Nigel Williams followed by a wild pitch advanced runners to second and third base. Colin Minor scored Peterson, and the Storm ended the inning trailing the Eagles 10-3. Two innings later, Jacob Lozinski hit a home run, but that was the last run the Storm would score in the game.

Storm senior Ryan Lally started on the bump, allowing 13 hits and two walks. Lally also struck two batters out in his first loss of the season. Pitching in relief were Tristan Mayer (3 strikeouts), Ray Jackson, Mark Fischer, and Peter Theodos.

The Eagles scored 21 runs on 21 hits (4 home runs), aided by eight walks and committing one error.

Storm baseball has played four NCAA Division II ranked opponents this season. Prior to no. 17 Ashland, they played Wayne State (19), Mercyhurst (8), and Millersville (25). They return to Classic Park this weekend for a G-MAC series against Hillsdale College consisting of two doubleheaders. Games for both days (Saturday and Sunday) are scheduled to start at 1pm and 3:30pm.
