MASSILON, Ohio- The Lake Erie Storm baseball team fell in a doubleheader against G-MAC foe Malone University Pioneers today. With the losses, Lake Erie's record falls to 11-11 with a conference record of 5-5, while Malone stands at 18-10 with a G-MAC record of 8-4.
The Pioneers took the first game, scoring three runs on seven hits and committing one error. Although the Storm also had seven hits, they scored two runs and one error.
Their first run came in the top of the second. Nigel Williams led off the inning with a single through the left side, followed by another single by Anthony Jackson. With runners on first and second, Nathan Ezren doubled, scoring Williams. In the top of the sixth, a solo home run by Williams tied the game 2-2, but Malone scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single. He went 3-4 at the plate, scoring both runs for the Storm in game one.
Ryan Middendorf started on the bump for the Storm, going seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks. Jackson Miller pitched one inning in relief, allowing zero runs, hits, and one walk.
Lake Erie fell 5-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. Malone scored five runs on six hits and committed two errors. The Storm had four hits and committed four errors. David Lemasters started the game and earned his first loss of the season. The senior pitched six innings, giving up five runs, two of which were earned, on six hits and two walks. Additionally, Lemasters earned four strikeouts.
The Storm will return to Classic Park tomorrow for the home half of the doubleheader against Malone for their second series of the season. They'll be playing under the lights, with a start time for the first game at 5:30 pm, and a tentative start time for the second game beginning at 8:00 pm.
