PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team will finish up the non-conference schedule this week with games against the Fairmont State University Falcons and the Gannon University Golden Knights. The Storm will travel to Fairmont State on Tuesday (May 1) for a doubleheader at 12:00 PM. On Wednesday (May 2), Lake Erie will host Gannon at 6:00 PM at Classic Park for a single game.
Storm Report: Lake Erie is 15-23-1 overall and 13-11 in the G-MAC this season. Behind Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan)'s strong eight innings and Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fla. / Oakleaf)'s four RBI, Lake Erie defeated Hillsdale 4-3 in the rubber game on Sunday (April 29) on the road. Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Southview) lead the Storm with a .310 batting average. Birchmeier leads the team with 44 hits, ten doubles and three triples. David Lemasters (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) is the team leader in ERA (2.72), innings (53.0) and tied for strikeouts (66).
Opposition Position: Fairmont State is 22-21 overall in the 2018 season. The Falcons dropped three of four games against West Liberty last weekend. Austin Norman leads the offense with 61 hits, 15 doubles and 43 RBI. Gannon is 27-15 overall for the season after a 3-1 series against Mercyhurst last weekend. The Golden Knights dropped the series opener and won the final three games. Nate Cardy leads Gannon with a .403 average, 50 hits and 39 RBI.
Series History: The Storm and Falcons have never faced off in the series before. Lake Erie has a 2-5 record against Gannon in the series history. The Storm fell 18-0 last month at Gannon.
Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will make their last playoff push with a home-and-home series with Malone, starting on Saturday (May 5) on the road.
