FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team was in action today as they were victorious over the University of Findlay, 4-0.
The first three innings of the game were scoreless. The Storm grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The inning was started when Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) doubled to left centerfield. The next batter up Trace Peterson (Medina, Ohio / Medina) singled to centerfield and plated Birchmeier. The Storm led 1-0 until the eighth when they tacked on a run. Blake Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) led off the inning as he reached on an error and advanced to second. Caleb Waller (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) reached base on an error, and advanced Curry to third. The next batter up Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) grounded out, but drove in Curry. The Storm added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth when Birchmeier led off the inning with a single. The next batter up Peterson tripled down the right field line to score Birchmeier. Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fla. / Oakleaf) drove in Peterson as he hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Ryan Middendorf (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota East) started for the Storm and pitched 8.2 scoreless innings. He allowed only four hits, and had four strikeouts, to earn his second win of the season. Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) recorded the final out of the game, and earned a save.
Lake Erie will return to the diamond Tuesday (April 24) when they travel to take on Gannon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
