INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following a three game series against G-MAC foe Walsh, the Lake Erie College baseball team stepped away from conference play for a doubleheader at the University of Indianapolis on Thursday (April 19) afternoon.
The Storm fell to the Greyhounds in two pitchers duals. UIndy won game one 3-1 and completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in the second game.
The Greyhounds scored one run in the first and second innings, taking a 2-0 after two innings.
Lake Erie cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third. Blake Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) opened the inning with an infield single to third base and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Nathan Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) followed with a walk. Forrest Longeway (Cincinnati, Ohio / Walnut Hills) advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fla. / Oakleaf) plated Bl. Curry with a groundout to third.
Indianapolis added a run in the fourth inning and went on to win 3-1 in the opener.
Aaron Kucia (Brunswick, Ohio / Cuyahoga Heights) turned in a quality start with six innings pitched in a complete game. Kucia allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Indianapolis scored with a run in the first, fourth and the sixth innings for the 3-0 victory.
The Storm had a runner in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but could not get any closer.
Nathan Erzen (Brookpark, Ohio / Berea-Midpark) had two of the Storm's six hits in the nightcap. Brian D'Andrea (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst) pitched four innings with two runs allowed. Tristan Mayer (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) followed with two innings of one run ball in relief.
The Storm will resume Great Midwest play at Findlay on Saturday (April 21) with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
