ERIE, Pa. – The Lake Erie College men's baseball team was in action today as they were defeated by Gannon University, 18-6.
The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 advantage. After a scoreless second inning, Gannon added to their lead with a pair of runs in third to take a 4-0 lead. The Golden Knights broke the game open with a six run fourth inning.
Gannon answered back with four runs in the fifth to maintain their advantage.
The Storm continued to fight as they scored in the sixth when Paxton reached on a fielder's choice to plate Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele). Lake Erie tacked on a run in the seventh when Drew Potesta (Canfield, Ohio / Ursuline) singled up the middle to score Brady Minetti (Mckees Rocks, Pa. / Montour), who started the inning with a bunt single. The next batter up, Ryan Carver singled home both Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) and Rua, as the Storm continued to chip away at the lead. Later in the seventh, Zavin Orr (Cambridge, Ohio / Cambridge) reached on a fielder's choice to plate Potesta, and the Storm trailed 14-6.
The Golden Knights tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh to keep a healthy advantage. Gannon added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, for the final score of 18-6.
Erzen led the Storm with three hits in the game. Potesta, Paxton and Carver each added two hits in the lineup. Rua scored twice as he walked and was hit by a pitch.
