NORTH CANTON, Ohio— The Lake Erie College baseball team dropped a pair of road games at Walsh University Saturday (April 4) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The Storm fell 4-3 in game one and 10-1 in game two.
The Cavaliers got on the board first, plating one run in the second. The Storm tied the game in the fourth. Cale Giddings (Pickerington, Ohio/North Pickerington/Akron) led off the inning with a double. Austin Bovenzi (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) hit into an error, bringing Giddings home. However, the Cavaliers scored three in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead.
Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South led off the fifth with a single to the pitcher and advanced to third on errors. Louie Peterlin grounded out but brought Lindgren home to cut the lead to two.
In the top of the seventh, Lindgren got on base to lead off. Peterlin grounded out but advanced Lindgren to second. Darren Sackett (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) drove Lindgren home with a single to right field to shorten the gap to one but it was not enough as the Cavaliers closed out the game for the win.
Lindgren led the Storm with two hits and two runs. Giddings had a hit and a run. Peterlin and Sackett recorded RBIs.
The Storm got on the board first in the opening frame. Nico DiIanni (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) earned a lead-off walk. After stealing second, a Lucas Raley (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina Highland) fly out advanced him to second. Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) grounded out to the shortstop but it was enough to bring DiIanni home and give the Storm an early lead.
After the Cavaliers scored one in the bottom of the frame, they added four the next inning to gain the lead. In the fourth inning, the Cavaliers plated four more.
In the top of the fifth, the Storm got two baserunners on with no outs but were left the runners stranded.
The Cavaliers added one more in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
The Storm and Cavaliers meet again on Monday (April 4) for two more games in North Canton.
