MARS HILL, N.C.—The Lake Erie College baseball team fell to Mars Hill University 11-6 Sunday (March 8) on the road.
The Storm struck first in the top of the third inning when Nico DiIanni (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) scored on a throwing error. Sean Mathews (Washington, Mich./Warren De La Salle) increased the lead to two by bringing Lucas Raley (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina Highland) home with a single. Mars Hill tied it by scoring one run in each next two innings.
DiIanni scored his second run of the game in the fifth inning on a wild pitch to give the Storm the lead once again but Mars Hill scored four runs over the next two innings to gain a three run lead. DiIanni scored his third run of the game in the seventh off another wild pitch but Mars Hill plated five in the bottom of the fifth.
Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth, scoring Tyler Kmitt (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) but it was not enough to overcome the Mars Hill advantage.
Lindgren led the Storm with two hits and two RBI. DiIanni was walked three times and scored three runs. Mathews had a hit and a RBI. Kmitt and Darren Sackett (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) had a hit apiece while Raley scored a run.
The Storm is back in action March 11th at Gannon University.
