PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Freshman outfielder Lucas Raley has been named an All-Midwest region second teamer by two organizations -- the American Baseball Coaches Association and D2SIDA.
Raley – a .360/.428/.606 (batting/on-base/slugging) batter heading into this week's NCAA-II Midwest Region Tournament – was voted onto the ABCA team by a panel of 25 Midwest Region coaches. He was voted onto the D2SIDA team by Midwest Region sports information directors.
The Hinckley, Ohio, native has 63 hits, including 23 extra-base hits and nine home runs, in this, his first collegiate season. His nine homers and 44 RBIs are single-season marks that have been topped only twice in Storm history.
The 6-foot-3 slugger was tabbed as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year last week and was also named a First Team All-GLIAC selection. Raley's numbers have gained momentum in recent weeks – in the month of May, he is batting .424 (14-of-33) with a 1.392 OPS (on-base plus slugging) while playing solid defense at three positions (first base, center field, left field). Over the stretch, he has 16 RBIs, and for the season he is batting .439 (18-of-41) with runners in scoring position.
Nine GLIAC players were tabbed as either first or second team players on the ABCA all-region squads. Fourteen appeared on the D2SIDA teams. Raley was the only freshman to appear on the D2SIDA teams.
