Storm Athletics Adds Two Strength & Conditioning Coaches

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Lake Erie College and Director of Athletics Kelley Kish has announced the hiring of Anthony Kukwa IV and Xavier Brown as strength and conditioning coaches in the sport performance area. Kukwa is a Storm alumnus who was a football standout during his time here. Brown makes his way to Painesville from Cocoa Beach, Florida, near Orlando.

"As we enter our third year in the G-MAC, this is a huge commitment to the health, well-being and overall performance of our student-athletes in hiring two experienced professionals in this area," said Director Kish. "I am thrilled that Anthony and Xavier will bring their passion and knowledge to the Storm and directly impact our student-athletes in all 19 sports."

Kukwa has recently worked locally with Perry High School and Spire Institute while also assisting the Storm on a volunteer basis. He played for Lake Erie from 2012 to 2016 and was a three-year captain as the team recorded the best seasons in program history.

His success on the field allowed him to pursue a football career professionally where he was with the Oakland Raiders in 2017 and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 as a long snapper and tight end.

"I'm extremely blessed to be back helping out my alma mater, and to share my knowledge with these young athletes. The opportunity to help these young men and women achieve their goals, on and off the field is what I look forward to the most. I'm extremely excited about these next few years, and can't wait to see what we can accomplish."

Brown was most recently the strength and conditioning coach at Cocoa Beach High School where he oversaw all facets of the program for basketball and volleyball. He also instructed proper lifting techniques and safety precautions. Prior to that, he was also a strength and conditioning coach at Extra Innings Baseball Academy and Plant High School. While with plant, his conditioning programs helped the crew team to a No. 5 national ranking.

He has also worked for the University of South Florida where he worked with Division I men's and women's basketball and golf teams. Brown is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association.

"I am very excited for this opportunity to be a part of the Storm family," said Brown. "I am committed to developing the student-athletes as young men and women, and creating a culture that is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of greatness."

Kukwa and Brown will both start in late July.
