PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College athletic department has named women's basketball student-athlete Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and wrestler Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), student-athlete of the month for the months of December and January.
In the month of December Gabor became the all time leading scorer in the history of the women's basketball program. Gabor set the record on Dec. 19th during an away contest against Kentucky Wesleyan. Currently Gabor has 1,583 points and counting, with 12 games remaining in the regular season in her historic career.
Hughes is off to a tremendous start to his final season as a member of the Storm wrestling team. He has a record of 11-3 throughout the months of December and January. Hughes earned a third place finish in the Midwest Classic and a fifth place finish in the Storm Open. He is currently ranked second in the region and is ranked eighth in the nation for the 184 pound weight class.
The Student Athlete of the Month award is an initiative that was started by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and is determined by the athletic department leadership team.
