When Lake Erie announced that it would start a football program in the fall of 2007, it needed one of college athletics regualr gameday traditions to go with it. The College held a nationwide contest in the fall of 2006 to find a spirited tune that would help lead its teams to victory. A total of 27 entries were submitted from as close as campus to as far as Peru. While most entries were traditional in style, others varied from folk to rock and rap to church hymn. After collecting the submissions, the judging panel narrowed the field to three finalists, who included Brian and Daniel Boyd from Ravenna, Ohio, Lowell and Susan Burch from Tulsa, Okla., and John Drebus from Rochester Hills, Mich.
Putting the vote in the hands of the students, faculty and staff, Susan and Lowell Burch’s fight song titled, “Here Comes the Storm,” was chosen as the College’s first fight song. The new fight song was unveiled during halftime of the men’s basketball game Feb. 3., 2007 where the Burches were present.
