Lake Erie College Athletic Hall of Fame Eligibility Criteria

In order to formally recognize and pay tribute to outstanding former athletes and coaches and other individuals who have contributed to the heritage and tradition of the College’s athletic program and reputation and who, through the years, continued to demonstrate in their daily lives core values learned in intercollegiate athletics, the Lake Erie College Athletic Hall of Fame was established.

COMMITTEE

The Hall of Fame Screening Committee shall consist of seven members whose duty shall be to prepare and present a ballot to vote for eligible candidates who have been identified as a top-25 nomination by any four of the seven members of the Screening Committee.  Once the ballot has been determined, the Screening Committee assumes the responsibility of investigating that each athlete has been a responsible citizen according to the high ideals of intercollegiate athletics.  Additionally, this committee shall elect any Coach/Administrator inductee and/or honorary member by a majority vote.

  • The Screening Committee shall by comprised of:
  • Director of Athletics
  • Senior Women’s Administrator
  • Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations
  • Director of Alumni Relations
  • Two current members of the Storm Coaching staff (serving a two-year term) chosen at the discretion of the Director of Athletics and senior staff
  • Athletic Council representative.
The annual list of nominees will be compiled by the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations.  It is the responsibility of the Hall of Fame Screening Committee to review the list and vote to approve the nominees as presented.  A vote of at least 2/3 of the committee will be needed to approve the nominees.
The Screening Committee selects all future replacements to the committee, except the Athletic Director will appoint LEC coaches serving on the Voting Committee.

ELIGIBILITY

An athlete must earn at least two varsity letters in one sport or a single letter in multiple sports or have brought great recognition to Lake Erie College through their athletic accomplishments or later in life in order to be considered.
  • A student-athlete must be at least a First Team All-Conference and/or All-District/All-Region selection. All-Americans and National Champions are automatically eligible for consideration.
  • A student-athlete is eligible to be considered for induction following a minimum of five years from the student-athlete’s last date of enrollment. This requirement may be waived under special circumstances, as approved by a majority vote of the Hall of Fame Screening Committee.
  • Any member serving on the Hall of Fame Screening or Voting Committees cannot be considered eligible for induction during his/her term.
  • Coaches and administrators shall be eligible based on accomplishments or contributions to the program.
  • All decisions relative to special admittance shall be made by the Hall of Fame committee.
NOMINATIONS
Nominations will be accepted at any time.  Solicitation of nominees will take place through the nomination portal on the lec.edu and LakeErieStorm.com websites. The Hall of Fame Screening Committee will then review nominations to comprise a ballot.
The year of induction may be different from the year of election in order to accommodate the attendance of the inductee.
