KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Lake Erie College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Kutztown D2/D3 Cross Country Challenge at Kutztown University on Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon.
The men's team finished 16th as a team in the 8k race. The women's team ran a 6K race.
"The meet this weekend at Kutztown University had a lot of good competition, on a hard course, and hot weather," said Interim Head Coach Matt Stuck. "Even with the tough conditions there were some good performances specifically from Gina and Catherine. The athletes are excited to get on a fast course at Cedarville for all Ohio in two weeks. We will see a lot of conference competitors there and it will be a good opportunity to run a fast time."
Xavier Kibet and George Lesnak (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood) had the best finishes for the men's team. Kibet finished in 87th place with a time of 30:38. Lesnak finished two seconds behind Kibet in 88th place. Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) finished 100th as he crossed the finish line with a time of 32:15. Jason Henry was right behind Bryan in 101st place two seconds behind. Chayse Csongedi (Parma, Ohio / Parma) came in 113th place with a finishing time of 37:04.
Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron was the leading finisher for the women's team as she came across the line in 93rd place with a time of 26:50.3. Catherine Beisel (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) finished the race one minute behind Henley with a split of 27:52.2 in 121st place. Sage Beauregard (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston/Albion) was the next finisher for the Storm as she completed the event in a time of 30:27.8. Hailey VanHoy (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) was in 167st place with a time of 31:09.9.
The Storm will return to the course in two weeks at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville.
