CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College cross country team was in action today as they competed in the Ric Sayre Invitational. Interim Head Coach Matt Stuck said "The Ric Sayre invite was an exciting start to the season".
The Storm was led by Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron) as she was the first Lake Erie woman to cross the line in a time of 20:43.1 minutes. Sage Beauregard (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston/Albion) ran a personal best time for a season opening meet, with a time of 21:28.6 minutes.
The Lake Erie men were led by George Lesnak (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood) as he ran a time of 28:36.8 minutes, which was the best time from a member of the men's team.
Coach Stuck added "The athletes ran well for their current conditioning. It is early in the season and we are still putting a lot of our focus on training and the workouts we are doing. There was definitely some good racing today and the athletes showed some good early season maturity sticking to the race plan and pacing we have been working on".
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (Sept. 16) when they travel to compete in the Kutztown D2/D3 Challenge.
