ERIE, Pa.—The Lake Erie College Cross Country teams competed at the Race in the Park, hosted by Mercyhurst University Saturday (Oct. 10).
The Storm men picked up both the individual and team titles at the race.
Brandon Green (Eastlake, Ohio/North) won the men's race with a time of 26:22.9. Dalton Graham (Gomer, Oho/Columbus Grove) finished in second with a time of 26:40.8. Vince Horning (Stow, Ohio/Stow) finished third with a time of 27:02.4. Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) finished fifth with a time of 27:15.0. Logan Ebersole (Chesterville, Ohio/Highland) rounded out the top-five runners for the Storm, finishing 10th with a time of 27:46.3. Wade Elmore (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished 19th with a time of 28:24.7.
"We felt like the men had a chance to do very well here, but to sweep the top three spots and put five in the top ten is just fantastic," said Storm Head Coach Grant Lofdahl. "Our top three guys were patient early and basically ran the last two miles by themselves. Brandon Green has had consistently good workouts for over a month, and he put it all together today. Wade Elmore and Brandon Bryan also ran really well. We're making strides and I think we'll only get better for the GLIAC and regional championships coming up. I'm excited to see the guys take on that level of competition."
Taylor Ritchie (Salem, Ohio/United Local) had the top finish for the Storm women, placing 22nd with a time of 20:59.3. Gina Henley (Akron, Ohio/Akron HS) placed 24th with a time of 21:06.9. Aleea Volkman (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) finished 28th with a time of 21:21.9. Hailey VanHoy (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) took 42nd with a time of 22:31.0. Hailey Wetzel (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) rounded out the top five runners for the Storm, finishing 48th with a time of 22:51.7. Catherine Beisel (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) had a season best time of 22:56.5 to finish in 50th.
"The women actually had a solid race, although it isn't reflected in the team results," said Lofdahl."I thought our captains Taylor Ritchie and Gina Henley did a great job of leading them, and Catherine Beisel had her best of the season so far."
The Storm is back in action Oct. 24 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.
