The Lake Erie College cross country teams competed in the 2010 NCAA Division II Regional hosted by Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
Sophomore Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) was the team's top finisher in 66th place with a time of 33:24.54 in the grueling 10K race. The result was two minutes faster than any Storm member ran at last year's regional and over three minutes faster than Lancaster's 2009 regional performance.
Freshman Nick Chlad (Eastlake, Ohio/North) was the next runner for the Storm men in 115th place with a time of 34:56.94 while Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) narrowly followed in 35:06.29 good for 119th.
Others finishes for the men were 139th for sophomore David Gobrogge (Akron, Ohio/Green) in 39:16.36, and 143rd for junior Zach Adams (Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) in 42:25.76.
Lake Erie's men ran the 10K in an average time of 37:01.98 and moved up a spot from last season, as they placed 20th out of 21 teams.
On the women's side, the top finishers were junior Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and sophomore Samantha Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick). Wright placed 130th with a time of 25:15.71 in the 6K race while Smith came in at 25:44.04, good for 134th.
The No. 3-5 runners for the Storm, sophomore Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights), junior Kyle Herron (Perry, Ohio/Perry), and freshman Shanita Fluker (Flint, Mich./Flint Southwestern) stayed packed together and finished 139th, 140th and 141st respectively in 26:18.06, 26:24.12 and 26:24.79. Senior Rachel Hanzak (Cedar Grove, N.C./Orange) rounded out the Lake Erie contingent in 31:11.46.
The top five Storm women averaged a time of 26:01.73, coming in 22nd out of 22 teams.
