Storm Taken Down By Wayne State to Close GLIAC Weekend

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Lake Erie College was competitive in first and third sets but couldn't stay with Wayne State University for the duration of the match, falling 3-0 at the at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Warriors took the match by a count of 25-14, 25-5, 25-17.

Senior Michelle Naab led the Storm with 6 kills, without an error for a .750 hitting percentage. Classmate Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, OH/North Royalton) had a team-high of 12 assists while junior Mary Walter (Solon, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral of Latin) had two aces and hit .500 for the match.  Junior setter Cydney Biessel led with 31 assists and outside hitter Kristen Bulkiewicz had a game high 11 kills.

The Storm (0-4, 0-3)  and Warriors (2-4, 1-1) fought for the lead early on in the first set and were tied 7-7 until a kill by WSU middle hitter Nicole Arends  helped jumpstart a 3-0 rally. Senior Michelle Naab (North Royalton, OH/North Royalton) led the Storm with four of their eight killsin the first set, but it was not enough to match Wayne State's 14. as they took the first set.

Sophomore Molly Richardson (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) put the first point on the board in the second set but the Warriors responded with nine consecutive points and were on their was to taking the set in commanding fashion.

Lake Erie did not give in easy in the third set, starting it with a 2-1 lead thanks to a block by Walter and sophomore Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) as well as a service ace by Richardson. Strong presence at the net by Naab, Walter, and Swann kept the Storm in the game but the Warriors stayed consistent with 10 kills and the set ended 25-17.

The Storm host Notre Dame College (Ohio) in a non-conference match, Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. (Sept. 13) at the Osborne Center.
