GLIAC Releases 2012 Preseason Coaches Poll

BAY CITY, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was picked to finish 14th in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) by the league's head coaches in the annual preseason poll released Thursday (Aug. 23).

 

The Storm return 13 players from last season's team under second-year head coach Jamie Shadd-Matson.

 

Defending champions Grand Valley State University finished first in the poll, receiving 13 first-place votes and 169 points. Ohio Dominican University received one first place vote and 146 points to take second place in the projections. 2011 GLIAC championship runner-up Ashland University tallied 136 points for third in the poll. Tiffin University edged out Northern Michigan University by one point for fourth. Ferris State University received 111 points to finish in sixth place, while Saginaw State University received 101 points to finish in seventh place. Michigan Technological University, Findlay University, Northwood, Walsh University, affiliate member Notre Dame College, and Malone University round out the rest of the poll.

 

The season kicks off on August 30th for the Storm, who travel to traditional nonconference rival Gannon University for a 1 p.m. contest in Erie, PA
