No. 25 Storm Tops 11 Ranked Teams At Midwest Classic

(INDIANAPOLIS) – The largest NCAA Division II team wrestling tournament produced excellent results for No. 25 Lake Erie as the Storm finished seventh out of 39 team with 69 total points. Four wrestlers – Nick Boggs, Blake Glogouski, Forrest Glogouski, and Evan Loughman – all placed individually in their respective weight classes.

A total of 16 teams in the top 25 competed in the event. The Storm did better than the majority and finished ahead of No. 5 Upper Iowa, No. 9 Western Colorado, No. 13 Chadron State, No. 14 Ashland, No. 15 Wisconsin-Parkside, No. 20 Gannon, No. 21 Mercyhurst, No. 21 Ouachita Baptist, No. 21 Seton Hill, No. 24 Findlay, and No. 25 Newman.

No. 4 McKendree rose through the ranks on Day 2 to take the team title with 127.5 points. Maryville edged out No. 10 Lindenwood 87-85 for second. Host No. 11 UIndy was fourth with 82 points, and Tiffin rounded out the top five with 76.

Boggs turned in the top result in the 157 lbs. bracket as he took home fourth place. He fell in his first bout of the day against Ouachita Baptist's Tyler Mann, ranked No. 2 nationally, via decision 6-2, but bounced back to win his consolation semi against Tiffin's Beau Minnick on tiebreaker-two 4-3.

Another tiebreaker was needed in the third place match, but unfortunately it didn't go Boggs' way as he fell to Nate Smalling 9-7 on tiebreaker-one.

Loughman turned in a sixth place finish in the heavyweight division. He was very close to advancing to the finals, but was narrowly defeated in a high scoring, 16-14 decision by Central Oklahoma's Blake Berryhill. He later fell in the consolation semis and fifth place match to Ashland's Tristen's Weirich and Lindenwood's Courvoisier Morrow, respectively.

The Brothers Glogouski, nationally ranked No. 10 at 125 Blake and 141 Forrest, also took sixth place finishes, but did not compete on the final day after medical forfeitures.

The Storm grapplers are now off until the New Year and will return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Mercyhurst. There Lake Erie will compete in a tri with duals against the hosting Lakers and East Stroudsburg.
