Dragons Top Storm in GLIAC Contest

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College wrestling team dropped a back and forth battle with the Tiffin University Dragons 29-18 on Friday (Feb. 3) night after a late Tiffin run.

125-pounder Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield), ranked eighth nationally, took on Landon Elliott for the Dragons. Glogouski controlled the match from the start with an early takedown before he pinned Elliott 1:41 into the match.

133-pounder Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins) followed Glogouski with a pin in his match against Hunter Langeloh. Lieb started the match with a 4-2 lead after a takedown and a reversal. Lieb took control with a reversal into a four point near-fall. Lieb finished the match with a pin at the 4:55 mark.

At 141 pounds, Zach Ruggles (Marietta, NY / Marcellus) took on Rico Puente for Tiffin. Puente scored three takedowns in the first period. Ruggles cut the lead to 6-4 in the second period with an escape. Puente sealed the match with two more takedowns in the third period as Puente defeated Ruggles with a 12-7 decision. Tiffin cut the Storm's lead to 12-3.

149-pounder Josh Pappas (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) faced the ninth-ranked Michael Screptock for the Dragons. Screptock had two takedowns in the early going as he took a 4-2 lead. After a scoreless second period, Screptock ended the match with a 16-5 major decision after he scored four takedowns and a two point near-fall.

In the 157 pound matchup, Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) faced Tiffin's Sam Viengmany. The men battled to a scoreless first period. Viengmany took a 4-0 lead with a near-fall and controlled the remainder of the match for a 13-3 major decision. The Dragons cut the lead to 12-11.

Seventh-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) took on Beau Minnick at 165 pounds. Vandermeer began the match with a takedown before Minnick tied it at the end of the second period. Vandermeer opened the third period with a key escape and added a riding time point for a close 4-2 decision.

Tiffin's Chase Boyd faced Sonny Lucas (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) for the Storm at 174 pounds. Boyd got control with a takedown and near-fall before ending the match with a pin at 2:21. Tiffin regained a 17-15 lead with three matches to go.

11th-ranked Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) began the 184 pound match against Jared Chambers with a takedown in the first period. Chambers got on the board with an escape in the second. Hughes added a key reversal and riding time point in the third period for a 5-1 decision win, giving the Storm a 18-17 lead.

Evan Rosborough (Concord Township, Ohio / Riverside) took on eighth-ranked Kevin Christman for the Dragons. Christman got a quick fall in the first period at 1:30 over Rosborough.

Zach Wood (Clarkston, Mich. / Oxford / Limestone) took on Garrett Gray for Tiffin in the heavyweight match. Gray clinched the dual for Tiffin with a fall in 22 seconds.

Tiffin won the dual by a final score of 29-18.

Lake Erie will travel to Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 4) for the final GLIAC matchup of the season.
