Matt and Nick Vandermeer Set for NCAA Championships

Matt Vandermeer and Nicholas Vandermeer will represent the Lake Erie College wrestling program at the 2016 NCAA Division-II Wrestling Championships this weekend in Sioux Falls, S.D.

MATT VANDERMEER: Matt Vandermeer, a senior, finished second in the 165-pound weight class at the Super Region-II Championships to qualify for the Championships.  This marks the third Championships that he has been invited to and second in a row.  Last year, Vandermeer finished runner-up in the 165-pound bracket, the second member of the Storm program to do so.  In 2012, Matt finished sixth as a freshman, becoming the Storm's first All-American.  This season, Matt finished with an 18-9 record.  12 of his wins came by decision with five major decisions and a tech fall.  He earned First-Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors.  In the opening round, he will face off against Nathaniel Ross of Gannon University.

NICK VANDERMEER: Nick Vandermeer finished fourth in the 174-pound bracket at the Super Region-II Championships to qualify for the Championships.  This marks the second straight appearance at the Championships by the redshirt sophomore. Nick finished the season with a 21-12.  He won 12 matches by decision, three by major decision, four by tech falls and two by pinfall.  He also earned First-Team All-GLIAC honors.  In the opening round, he will face Austin Harris of Western State.
