Trio Takes Fourth at Eastern Michigan Open

EAST LANSING, Mich.—The Lake Erie College wrestling team opened their 2015-16 regular season at the Eastern Michigan Open Saturday (Nov. 17).

The field consisted of some of the top Division-I programs in the country.

125-pounder Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind./Fairfield) won his first bout, 5-2, over Angelo DiSabato of Ohio University. In the quarterfinals, he bested Logan Griffin of Michigan State, 4-3.  However, he fell in the semifinals to Elijah Oliver of Indiana University and forfeited his third-place match to finish in fourth.

157-pounder Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) opened his season with a 9-1 major decision over Taylor Cahill of Bloomsburg University in the preliminary round.  In his second match, Baughman picked up a 12-4 major decision over the University of Illinois' Tim McCarthy.  In the quarterfinals, Baughman continued to wrestle well, pinning Gavin Murray of Purdue University in the third round.  However, Baughman fell in the semifinals and third-place match to finish fourth.

174-pounder Nicholas Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) opened up the tournament with an 8-6 decision over Jerald Spohn of Kent State University.  He received a medical forfeit in the quarterfinals to reach the semis.  However, he fell in the semifinals and forfeited the third-place match to finish fourth.

After falling in his first round bout, 141-pounder Joshua Davis (Haubstadt, Ind./F.S. Reitz) won his second match 3-2 over Sa'Derian Perry of Eastern Michigan.  He then picked up a 4-2 decision over Collin Vargo of Central Michigan University and a 12-2 major decision over Mousa Jodeh of the Illinois before falling in the fourth consolation round.

141-pounder Chayse Csongedi (Parma, Ohio/Parma) opened up the tournament with a pinfall over Kent State's Kyle Lukowhich.  He later picked up another pinfall, this time over Gino Fluri of Rider University before falling in the third consolation round.

Evan Loughman (Thornville, Ohio/Sheridan) won his first heavyweight contest by major decision, 12-4, over Grand Valley State University's Harun Bogdanic.   After falling in the second round, Loughman pinned George Lahar V of Eastern Michigan in the opening period.  However, he was eliminated in the third consolation round.

141-pounder Ian Ross (Newark, N.Y./Newark), 184-pounder Brendan Scherer (Fresno, Ohio/River View) and 184-pounder Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) also had wins on the day.
