Women's Lacrosse Picked Third in G-MAC

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Defending champion Lake Erie has been selected third in the 2019 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour that was released this morning. The Storm, who are coming off of the best season in program history, received 40 points and one of the eight first place votes.

Only six points separated them from preseason favorites Findlay who received four first place votes that computed into its 46 points. G-MAC newcomer Tiffin was picked second with 42 points and the remaining three first place nods.

Walsh was picked fourth with 31 points with Ursuline following with 26 to round out the top five. Alderson Broaddus (19), Davis & Elkins (11), and Ohio Valley (9) complete the standings.

The Storm, guided by Coach of the Year Mallory Ferrandiz, not only swept the conference in competitgion last year, but also all of the major individual awards for All-Conference recognition. While Cecilia Spin will be missed as the Defensive Player of the Year after graduating, her sister Anna returns as the Offensive Player of the year as does Freshman of the Year Riley Heffron.

Also returning are G-MAC All-Conference selections Chloe Nottingham, Harmony Moore, and Meagan Maxwell. Nottingham and Moore were both first team selections at defense and goalkeeper, respectively. Maxwell earned a nod on the G-MAC Honorable Mention team.

The offense churned through Anna Spin as the rising senior was seventh in the nation with 107 points on 65 goals and 42 assists. The 6.0 points per game was the 10th-best mark nationally as well.

On the opposite end Moore was just as effective defensively as she had a goals-against average of 8.10, the fifth-best mark in the nation.

The Storm currently rides a 16-game win streak and will open the season on Friday, Feb. 22, against Grand Valley State at 6 p.m.
