Lake Erie Recognized In Major National Polls

(INDIANAPOLIS) – After last year's banner season that resulted in an undefeated G-MAC season and championship, Lake Erie is ranked in the preseason national polls by both Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA. The Storm will enter the season at No. 19 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll. The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has Lake Erie slated at No. 24.

Collectively the Storm swept the individual G-MAC All-Conference awards with Anna Spin being named Offensive Player of the Year, her sister Cecilia being named Defensive Player of the Year, Riley Heffron being named Freshman of the Year, and Mallory Ferrandiz being named Coach of the Year. Three of the aforementioned in the quartet return with only Cecilia gone because of graduation.

Anna went on to dominate the league in offense with 65 goals and 43 assists for 108 points, a number that tied her for seventh in the nation. She also helped get the Storm to a fast start after goals with 4.5 draw controls per game.

Both goalies return to shore up the defense in Mackenzie Levine and Harmony Moore. Both proved strong between the pipes with goals-against averages of 5.61 and 8.38, respectively.

Lake Erie enters the season with a 16-game winning streak it dropped the first two games last season. That impressive mark will be put to the test in the first game as the Storm face Grand Valley State on Friday, Feb. 22. A date with Charleston (W.Va.) will follow on Saturday, March 2.
