Storm Hosts Roberts Wesleyan & Wheeling Jesuit (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team will step away from Great Midwest play this week for two non-conference home games at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The Storm will host the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Thursday (March 22) at 6:15 PM and will end the weekend with the rescheduled game against Wheeling Jesuit. Lake Erie will face the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals on Sunday (March 25) at 12:00 PM, after the game was postponed due to weather two weeks ago.

Storm Report: After dropping the first two games this season, Lake Erie have opened conference play with two straight wins to be 2-2. The Storm rallied three times for an 11-10 overtime win at Findlay on Saturday (March 17). Cecilia Spin scored the game winner 1:04 into overtime. Taylor Mathis and Anna Spin each scored three goals in the G-MAC victory. Mathis leads the Storm with 16 goals scored in four games.

Opposition Position: Roberts Wesleyan is 6-3 so far this season before the matchup with the Storm. The Redhawks defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 15-7 in their last game last Saturday (March 17). Taylor Nathan and Emily Tomei each have scored 20 goals for the Redhawks this season. Wheeling Jesuit is 2-6 in the 2018 season following a 22-11 loss against Grand Valley State last Sunday (March 18). Paige Orbell is the Cardinals' leading scorer with 27 goals this season.

Series History: Lake Erie and Roberts Wesleyan have met twice in the series before. The Storm scored 11 goals in the first half in a 19-12 win over the Redhawks last season on the road. Roberts Wesleyan defeated the Storm 13-12 in overtime during the 2015 season. Overall, the Storm and the Cardinals have met on the field five times. Lake Erie holds a 5-0 series advantage over Wheeling Jesuit. The Storm defeated the Cardinals 16-6 last season on the road.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will resume conference play with road games at Walsh and Ohio Valley next Thursday (March 29) and Saturday (March 31).
