Storm Down Oilers on OT Game Winner, 11-10

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team continued Great Midwest play on the road with a matchup at the University of Findlay Oilers on Saturday (March 17) afternoon.

Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) won the game for the Storm in overtime, sealing the Storm's 11-10 over the Oilers.

Two minutes into the game, Findlay struck first with a goal. Ninety seconds after, Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) tied the game from an assist by Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning). The Oilers took a 2-1 lead with 23 minutes left in the first half. Mathis tied the game at two with an unassisted goal four minutes later. The Andersen from Mathis connection worked again as the pair teamed up for a goal with 16 minutes remaining in the half. After 15 minutes of scoreless action, Findlay tied the game once again with a free position, man-up goal. The teams were tied 3-3 at halftime.

Less than two minutes after halftime, Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) scored on a free position shot for the Storm. Over the next four minutes, Findlay used two goals, taking a 5-4 with 25 minutes remaining. Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) tied the game at five before Findlay quickly responded, taking the lead back. In a two minute period, Lake Erie got three goals from Mathis and A. Spin. Mathis started the rally, before A. Spin converted a man-up, free position shot. Mathis scored just seconds later as Lake Erie gained a two goal advantage with 18:25 remaining. The Oilers converted a man-up opportunity one minute later but Crawford pushed the lead back to two with an unassisted goal. Findlay used three goals in a twelve minute span to take a 10-9 lead over the Storm. After trailing with 5:49 left, Mathis tied the game at ten with a goal at the 3:22 mark. The score was tied 10-10 going to extra time.

C. Spin found the back of the net 1:06 into overtime for the Storm's second straight overtime win over Findlay.

Mathis led the Storm with four goals and two assists. She also picked up two groundballs. Crawford scored twice as she was tied for the team lead with four groundballs. A. Spin won five draw controls on top of her two goals in the game. Andersen scored twice for the Storm. C. Spin had four groundballs, three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Meagan Maxwell (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg) and Harmony Moore (Farmington, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) each had three groundballs each.

The Storm will return home for a non-conference matchup with Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday (March 22).
