Storm Rolls to Big Win in G-MAC Opener

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team opened Great Midwest play on Thursday (March 15) night at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium against the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots.

Lake Erie used 13 first half goals, propelling them to a 21-4 win over the Fighting Scots.

Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) opened the game with two straight goals in the first two minutes for Lake Erie. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) followed with two consecutive goals off assists from Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). Four minutes in, Mathis scored again on a free position shot as Lake Erie made it 5-0. Four minutes later, Riley Heffron (Livermore, Ca. / Granada) scored from a feed from Meagan Maxwell (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg). One minute later, Mathis converted her second free position shot of the night. Over the next 12 minutes, Lake Erie scored four goals for an 11-0 lead. A. Spin scored two goals along with Maxwell and Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) each scoring a goal. After an Ohio Valley goal, Brigid Lempko (Buffalo, NY / Mount Mercy Academy) scored her first goal as a part of two Lake Erie goals in the final four minutes of the first half. Lake Erie led 13-1 at the intermission.

Chloe Nottingham (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary), Molly Horvath (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), Michelle Burke (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth), Jordan Jernigan (Akron, Ohio / Firestone) and Jacquelynn Ho (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) all scored their first goals of the season as the Storm outscored the Fighting Scots 8-3 in the second half.

Eleven different players scored for Lake Erie in the game. Mathis led the Storm with four goals along with one assist and four draw controls. A. Spin had three goals and three assists with a game-high six draw controls. Heffron scored three goals, grabbed two groundballs, and four draw controls. Crawford had two goals, two assists and one groundball. C. Spin led the team with four caused turnovers.

Harmony Moore (Farmington, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) and Mackenzie Levine (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) combined to make three saves in the goal.

The Storm will continue conference play with a road game at Findlay on Saturday (March 17) afternoon at 1:00 PM.
