Lake Erie Storms Past Davis & Elkins

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College Storm women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 19-1 win over the Davis & Elkins College Senators on Friday (March 17) night.

Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) opened the game with a goal 50 seconds into the contest. Thirty seconds later, Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) found the back of the net for the Storm. Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored two straight goals for Lake Erie, making it 4-0 in favor of the Storm. Ten minutes into the half, Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored her third goal of the season. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) scored three straight goals in the span of four minutes. Mathis made it 9-0 Lake Erie with a free position shot with 13 minutes left in the half. Crawford followed with her fourth goal of the night. Crawford assisted on an Andersen goal with nine minutes left in the first half. With six minutes left, Kaci Asper (Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse / Onondaga) converted a free position shot. A. Spin did the same two minutes later. Quiggle beat the buzzer with a goal in the final seconds of the half.

Lake Erie led 14-0 at the half, with the defense posting a shutout in the first half.

Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn), Jacquelynn Ho (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny), and Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky. / Eastern) all scored in the first ten minutes of the second half. Davis & Elkins scored with 18 minutes left in the game. Bohn and Breana Moser (Gahanna, Ohio / Gahanna) ended the scoring for the Storm in the second half.

Crawford led the Storm with four goals in the game along with one assist, two groundballs and three draw controls. Mathis scored three times and one assist. Four different players scored two goals each. Andersen scored two goals and caused three turnovers. A. Spin had two goals, three assists and three draw controls in the contest. C. Spin led the Storm with three groundballs and four draw controls.

The Storm defense forced Davis & Elkins into 23 turnovers in the game.

Lake Erie will return to action on Tuesday (March 21) as they play host to Ohio Valley at the Britt.
