NORTH CANTON, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team finished the 2014 regular season with a win over Walsh University Sunday (April 27) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play for their sixth straight victory.
The Storm dominated the first half of play, amassing a 10-0 lead by the end. Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) scored the first three goals of the game- two on free-position shots. Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored on a free-position for her first goal, followed by Abu-Kwiek's fourth- assisted by Delaney Semancik (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast). Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta/National Sport Academy) scored three straight, the first two assisted by Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) and Semancik, respectively, and the third on a man-down, free-position shot. Abu-Kwiek wrapped up first scoring with her fifth goal off an assist from Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy).
West, Abu-Kwiek and Gryba scored the first three goals of the second-half, with assists from Bohn and Semancik on the latter two, before the Cavaliers got on the board. Gryba added her fifth goal late in the half as the Storm sealed the game.
Abu-Kwiek ended the game with six goals while Gryba had five. West had a trio of goals. Semancik had a five assists while Bohn and Quiggle combined for three.
Bohn, Quiggle, Breana Moser (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna), Abu-Kwiek, West, Gryba and Semancik all had three groundballs. Abu-Kwiek also caused four turnovers.
Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont/Anderson C.V.I.) picked up the win in net, making five saves.
The Storm finishes the regular season with 10-7 overall record and were 7-1 in GLIAC play. They will enter the GLIAC Championships next weekend hosted by top-seeded Grand Valley State University as the second-seed.
