No. 3 C.W. Post Too Much For Storm In Road Defeat

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Facing the difficult task of playing one of the top three teams in NCAA Division II on the road in a back-to-back situation, Lake Erie College (4-4, 0-2 ECC) fell at No. 3 C.W. Post University (6-1, 2-0 ECC), 23-5, in a conference matchup in Brookville, N.Y.

Juniors Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewilt) and Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) each scored a pair of goals for the Storm.  Kudla also added the lone Lake Erie assist.  Sophomore Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) had Lake Erie's other score.

The host Pioneers relied on a balanced scoring attack with 11 women scoring in the game with five sharing top honors with three goals each.

C.W. Post got off to a feverish start scoring just 17 seconds into the game and three goals in the game's first 90 seconds.  Howe scored the lone goal of the first half for the visitors at 19:05 of the first half but Lake Erie already trailed.  The Pioneers prevented any further scoring for the Storm in the first 30 minutes and led 14-1 at intermission.

With new sophomore goalie Annie Mendoza (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic) in for Lake Erie, the Storm slowed the Post attack with seven saves.  However, the Pioneers moved ahead 16-1 before Kudla ended the scoring drought but the Storm was unable to get back into the game with a continuous clock throughout the second half.

C.W. Post dominated possession of the ball with a 19-10 advantage in draw controls and an 18-8 ground ball edge.

The Storm have a short turnaround again as they play a non-conference game Tuesday (April 3) with a 6:00 p.m. start vs. Urbana University.
