Storm Falls at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated by the Hillsdale College Chargers on Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon by a final score of 103-50.

Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) halted a Hillsdale 7-0 run over the first two minutes with a jumper as the Storm trailed 7-2. With Hillsdale leading 23-6, Lake Erie got a 6-2 run with baskets by Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Josie Chaddock (Minerva, Ohio / Minerva) along with two free throws from Gabor. The Chargers led 30-14 after one quarter.

Gabor started the second quarter with a layup before Hillsdale went on a run. Over the final two minutes of the quarter, Lake Erie scored six of the final ten points. Gabor, Dawson and Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ooltewah) all scored two points each as Hillsdale led 55-24 at the intermission.

Chaddock kicked off the second half with a jumper before Hillsdale responded. Gabor hit a three pointer and Ashley West (Willoughby Hills, Ohio / Cornerstone Christian) added a layup as Lake Erie made a 5-2 run. Lake Erie made five free throws over the final 1:18 of the third quarter as the Storm closed the gap to 74-42 after three quarters.

Dawson scored four points for the Storm in a one minute span in the fourth quarter but the Storm could not pull any closer.

Gabor led all scorers with 19 points, including going a perfect ten-for-ten from the free throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds. Dawson added 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Chaddock scored six points with a team-high four steals.

Lake Erie will face Ohio Dominican on Thursday (Feb. 15) night at 7:30 PM, the third of four straight road games.
