Storm Opens 2017-18 Season With G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team will begin the 2017-18 season with two games at home as a part of the 2017-18 G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge. On Saturday (Nov. 11), the Storm will play future G-MAC member Tiffin in the second game of the evening at 8:00 PM. Lake Erie will conclude the weekend on Sunday (Nov. 12) with a matchup against Wayne State at 4:00 PM.

Storm Report: Lake Erie begins their first season in the G-MAC after an 8-18 campaign in 2016-17. The Storm finished the last season in the GLIAC with a 6-14 record. Lake Erie returns the scoring champion from the GLIAC and All-GLIAC First Team honoree, Kayla Gabor. Gabor averaged 19.1 points last season.

G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge: Former GLIAC member Findlay is the fourth team playing in the G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge this weekend. The Oilers made the switch to the G-MAC along with Lake Erie this summer. The Oilers will play Wayne State on Saturday and Tiffin on Sunday.

Preseason Poll: Lake Erie was ranked ninth in the 2017 Great Midwest Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour with 48 points. 

Series History: As members of the GLIAC, Lake Erie has been very familiar with Tiffin and Wayne State. The Storm and the Dragons have met 15 times with Tiffin winning nine matchups. The teams split the two meetings last season. Lake Erie and Wayne State have met 11 times on the court. Lake Erie has won three matches, as the Storm fell 69-67 in last year's meeting.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will play in a tournament at Roberts Wesleyan next weekend with games against Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan.
