Storm Led by Relay Performance at Midwest Open

GENEVA, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed in the Midwest Open at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The men were led by a strong performance in the men's distance medley as the team won the event.  The relay team was comprised of Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio / Lake Catholic), Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead), Vince Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow), and DJ Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove) as they took first place honors with a time of 10:10.58 minutes.  Graham added to an impressive meet as he took a second place finish in the mile crossing the finish line in a time of 4:19.00 minutes.

Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "The relays were a big highlight with the DMR getting the win last night and the 4x4 guys running a big season best today. Joseph Elson ran a very nice 400 leg in each of those relays. Dalton Graham had another excellent meet, dropping down to shorter races with a great relay anchor leg and a runner-up finish in the mile".

The women were led by Danielle Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Walnut Grove (Ga.)) as she notched a second place finish in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.24 meters.  Brenda Johnson (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontaine) also had a solid day as she earned a fourth place finish in the shot put, with a throw of 12.54 meters.  Catherine Beisel (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) had a personal best in the 5000 meter run and just missed a school record as she finished with a time of 19:48.93 minutes.

Coach Lofdahl said "On the women's side, Danielle Corbin and Brenda Johnson had top-5 finishes in the long jump and shot put respectively. Kenzie Patton ran a really nice 200, and last night Catherine Beisel had a great 5K".

Lake Erie will be back in action next weekend when they travel to compete in the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
