Storm Compete in Day One of the D-II Team Challenge

GENEVA, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today at the D-II Team Challenge at the Spire Institute. 

The women were led by Taylor Ritchie (Salem, Ohio / United Local) as she broke a school record in the 5000 meter by 12 seconds, as she crossed the finish line in a time of 19:48.25 minutes.

The distance medley relay team of Gina Henley (Akron, Ohio / Akron HS), Hailey Wetzel (Willoughby, Ohio / Willoughby), Hailey Vanhoy (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva), and Aneesa Volkman (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon) placed second in a time of 13:31.4 minutes. 

Kaitlyn Menges (New Philadelphia, Ohio / New Philadelphia) placed second in the weight throw as she cleared a distance of 14.71 meters. Hannah Brehm-Gutting (Edon, Ohio / Edon Northwest) placed third with a distance of 13.81 meters in the weight throw. 

Sean Stone (Newton Falls, Ohio / Southeast) and Jimmy Ritt (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) placed first and second in the men's weight throw.  They threw 16.64 meters and 15.12 meters respectfully.

Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) and George Lesnak (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood) placed first and second in the men's 5000 meter. They crossed the finish line in times of 15:25.36 and 15:39.97 minutes respectively.

Lake Erie will continue to compete in the D-II Team Challenge as they wrap up the competition tomorrow.
