Softball Splits Again On Day 2 of Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fl. - The Lake Erie softball team finished the second day of their 2019 season with a split, winning against Rockhurst and falling to Franklin Pierce, to bring their overall record to 2-2.


Freshman Rachel Ward started things off for the Storm in the top of the first, smacking an RBI double to bring in two runs. Megan Smith then reached first on an error, but brought in two runs to take a 4-0 lead. Taylor Phillips and Kaitlin Peacock both hit RBI singles the next inning, which extended the lead to 6. Chloe Allen doubled to center, which brought in two more, followed by another RBI single by Phillips. Rockhurst made a run in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs, but the Storm held on for the win with a final score of 9-5.

Allyson Deemer tossed a complete game, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits and two walks, while earning two strikeouts.


The Storm dropped their game against Franklin Pierce with a final score of 7-1. The Storm's lone run was scored by an RBI double hit by Alyssa Johnson. Ward was credited with the loss.

Lake Erie softball is set for a couple off-days to recharge their batteries, and will return to the fields in Florida to matchup against Concord and Bridgeport on Monday, Mar. 11 for two morning games.
