Storm Swept by Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was defeated in a doubleheader against the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets on Saturday (April 21) afternoon on the road.

The Storm fell in game one 2-0 and the second game 3-2.

GAME ONE

Cedarville scored first in the bottom of the second inning on an infield single. The Yellow Jackets added a second run in the fourth inning, making it 2-0.

The Storm had the winning run at the plate in the fifth inning but could not get closer.

Payton Brownlee (Newark, Ohio / Granville) had two hits of the Storm's four hits in the first game. Ashley Brown (Dayton, Ohio / Carlisle) pitched a complete game with two runs (one earned) allowed in six innings. She allowed four hits, two walks and struck out five.

GAME TWO

The Yellow Jackets broke through first in the second inning with a run and then added two runs in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Lake Erie cut the lead to 3-1 with a run. Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) doubled with one out and scored on a RBI single by Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic). One inning later, Lake Erie trimmed the lead to one before making an out. Jennifer Doershuk (Streetsboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) led off with a triple and crossed the plate with a RBI single from Taylor Phillips (Ontario, Canada / John F. Ross). Cedarville won the nightcap 3-2.

Doershuk went three-for-three in the second game while Phillips had two hits.

Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) pitched six innings with three runs allowed, all unearned. She allowed six hits, did not walk a batter with three strikeouts.

The Storm will continue the roadtrip with a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican on Sunday (April 22) at 12:00 PM.
